Like the front suspension there are also two common rear suspensions for your buggy. Swing axle and IRS. Swing axle has one boot at the transmission side, tubes covering the axles and generally comes out of the car as one unit – see left side of diagram below. IRS has CV joints with boots on both ends of the axle – see right side of diagram below. There are a couple of different types of IRS transaxles. Some are referred to as car or bus. There are also different types of car transaxles, many with different gearing for different applications. The same goes for the bus transaxles. There are 3 rib, 5 rib and 6 rib bus transaxles.
